York's Christmas market, also known as St Nicholas Fair, fills Parliament Street and St Sampson's Square with alpine-style chalets selling gifts and seasonal food. It is outdoors, free to browse and closed on Tuesdays for a weekly rest day. The city centre is pedestrianised here, which makes it manageable with children, though it is crowded at weekends.
