What's in it

One safe place

Four things, in one app

Acorn isn't just TV. It's our own programmes, learning and games, plus one set of controls for the streaming apps your children already use.

Acorn Originals

Our own calm, gentle shows for little ones. Every episode follows an area of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Learning content

A little-and-often learning path, plus homework from a tutor, school or you, played as games and marked for you.

Games

Learning games with a daily goal and streaks, and a score for every skill so you can see what's clicking.

Streaming parental controls

Choose which streaming services each child can open, how long for and when. Acorn opens each one in its kids profile.

Why we're building it

Screens arrive early, and every app has its own controls.

  • 88%

of children aged 3–7 go online

  • 65%

of parents of babies aged 6 months–2 say their child goes online

  • 1 hour

a day at most for 2–5s, under UK government guidance

Five apps, five setups

Kids profiles, PINs and limits are set separately in every app.

Built to hold attention

Autoplay and fast-cut content keep children watching, not learning.

Locked to one brand

The best all-in-one controls only work on one company's own tablets.

Cut off from real life

Nothing links what children watch to what they could do this weekend.

Acorn Originals · every episode follows the EYFS

Our own programmes, one for each area of learning

Calm, gentle shows made by Tumble for children aged 2 to 5, with no fast cuts and no autoplay. Free families get a taste; the Family plan has the full library, ad-free.

EYFS · Understanding the world

Pip Underground

A mole discovers what lives under the garden.

EYFS · Mathematics

Nest Numbers

Three little birds count and share everything.

EYFS · Physical development

Bramble Stomps Out

A hedgehog in wellies gets everyone moving.

Learning content and games

Little and often

  • A learning path led by our characters, a few minutes a day.
  • A daily goal and streaks so coming back feels like a game.
  • A score for every skill so you can see what's clicking and what needs practice.
  • Ask Pip an AI helper that gives hints rather than answers. Off until you turn it on.
  • SEND-ready with calm mode, subtitles and signing.

Homework

Set by tutors, played as games

  • Set by your child's Tumble tutor, their school, or you, in Home & Learning.
  • Played in Acorn, with Ask Pip for hints if you've turned it on.
  • Marked automatically, with the time taken.
  • Seen by you in Tumble, before the next session.

From EYFS counting games through phonics, times tables and spelling to KS3 French vocab, plus practice set by clubs and coaches.

Streaming parental controls

One set of rules, every screen

Set each child's rules once in Tumble. They follow the child from the tablet to the TV, and a change you make reaches the screen in minutes.

A daily time limit

Per child. When it's used up, Acorn says goodnight kindly.

Allowed hours

No screens before school or after bedtime (Family plan).

Content by age

Only age-right shows, opened in each service's kids profile.

Choose the services

Pick which streaming apps each child can open from Acorn.

A locked home screen

The Home button always comes back to Acorn on the family tablet.

History and progress

See what they watched, learnt and played, and how long for.

Services you'll be able to choose from include BBC iPlayer (CBeebies, CBBC), ITVX Kids, Channel 4, Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube Kids, Apple TV+, NOW / Sky Kids. Acorn opens each one in its own kids profile on your device; it never asks for your passwords. Which services work on day one will be confirmed at launch.
